When I first read this quote, it hit meāI may have been placing too much emphasis on efficiency alone.
My philosophy is very much centered on helping you to streamline your processes so that you can spend less time doing the things that you need to get done in order to have time for the things you want to be doing (whether or not those are business-related), but maybe I donāt give enough attention to something that needs to come first – making sure you arenāt wasting time on things that donāt actually need to get done at all.
I talk a lot about automation, but there are a few steps that need to come first, so this week, let’s start there because thereās no point in automating tasks that donāt need to be done in the first place!Ā
āļø Streamline Your Week
Before you Automate
-
Take an Inventory: When you are trying to streamline a process in your business (ie. social media, email marketing, course creation) the first thing you need to do is to write down all of the steps for that processā¦in granular detail.
-
Evaluate each Task: Hereās the step that relates to this weekās quote. Review the inventory you just took of your process and highlight the tasks that are absolutely necessary to that processā¦not the ones you think are important, but the ones that, without which, the process literally wouldnāt be completed.
-
Be Brutal: Take a red pen to the tasks that didnāt get highlighted. Get rid of as many as you can, without losing quality.
-
Prepare to Outsource: Wait, did she just say outsource?! š® I did, but you arenāt necessarily going to outsource to a person. This is where you make note of all of the tasks that you would hire someone else to do for you. Those are the tasks you are going to start with as you automate.Ā
